Measuring What Matters: Our Independent Social Impact Report

In partnership with the University of Aberdeen, Eat Sleep Ride commissioned a full analysis of our work. The study was led by Amrita Mojumder (MPH student) and provides the first independent assessment of the true reach of our programmes.

The report found that Eat Sleep Ride delivers multidimensional impact:

  • Mental health & confidence: measurable improvements for children, young people, and families, particularly those experiencing trauma, disadvantage, or social isolation.

  • Inclusion & resilience: participants develop self-esteem, interpersonal skills, and belonging, while volunteers transition into training, mentoring, and employment.

  • Community & economic benefit: local jobs, skills development, and rural tourism boost economic resilience in the Borders.

  • Environmental stewardship: food growing, rewilding, and solar power projects reduce carbon impact and build eco-literacy.

  • Horse welfare & dual impact: rescued horses are given purposeful lives, supporting both human and animal wellbeing.

The research positions Eat Sleep Ride as a replicable model of rural wellbeing and social enterprise — one that combines trauma-informed equine-assisted learning with sustainability and community development.
