Herd Dynamics Resource: Approaching the Horse
Herd Dynamics Resource: Approaching the Horse
This developing Herd Dynamics resource examines the moment of intersection between a person and a horse.
As a person approaches a horse, two lines of movement are already present: the human’s path and the horse’s awareness of that approach. Before touch or request, the horse responds to how that approach is made — the pace, direction, focus and intention carried into the shared space.
The resource focuses on what happens at the point where these lines meet:
-
how the horse adjusts position, weight or attention
-
whether the horse holds, yields, turns away or steps in
-
how small changes in the human’s approach alter that response
Rather than offering technique or instruction, the resource supports learning through careful observation of the interaction itself. The horse is approached as an active participant in the exchange, responding moment by moment to how space is entered and shared.
This is a practice-based resource in development, intended to be used, tested and revisited over time as understanding of horse–human interaction deepens
