Dark Skies, Old Tales — Fireside Storytelling at Quarry Farm

A fireside evening under Berwickshire's dark skies

This October, Eat, Sleep, Ride is joining the inaugural South of Scotland Dark Sky Festival with a soulful evening of fireside storytelling under one of the darkest skies in Scotland.

Held at our off-grid, solar-powered farm at Lamberton — just five minutes from the Scottish border — this intimate evening blends the deep quiet of the Berwickshire countryside with the ancient magic of stories told aloud.

What to expect

A professional Scottish storyteller will lead a 60–90 minute session of traditional tales drawn from the rich folklore of the Borders and beyond. Expect fairy lore, night-sky myths, sea legends from the coast, and the older stories that belong to this landscape.

Your evening begins at dusk with a warm welcome — tea or soup in the yurt, the fire pit lit, blankets and hot chocolate at the ready. The storytelling session unfolds under the open sky, followed by quiet time to settle, stargaze, and simply be. The group is kept intimate, with no more than twenty people, so the evening stays close and unhurried.

Practical details

The evening takes place on Saturday 17 October 2026, from 7:00pm to 9:30pm, at Quarry Farm, Lamberton, Berwick-upon-Tweed TD15 1XB. Tickets are £35 for children under 12 and for aged 13 and over.

To book your place

Places are limited to twenty and this evening will fill up, so early booking is encouraged. Please email danielle@eatsleeprides.org with your name and contact number, the number of places you would like to reserve, and any access requirements or dietary needs we should know about. We will come back to you to confirm your place and share payment details.

What to wear and bring

Please dress warmly in layers, bring waterproofs, and wear sturdy boots. October evenings in Berwickshire are cool, but you will be warm by the fire. We have an accessible toilet and indoor warming space on site.
